Where Does Our Money Go?
Since the inception of Westmoreland Walks, Inc., over $600,000 has been raised. In keeping with our hopes to use your donations in Pennsylvania, our money is donated to the following:
Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition
The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives. The PBCC is a statewide non-profit organization that creates the hope of a brighter tomorrow by providing action and information to women with breast cancer today. Besides being a very helpful and powerful organization, they have a slogan that touched our hearts…
“Finding a cure now…so our daughters and granddaughters won’t have to.”
Spa Serenity Day
While most proceeds are donated to the PBCC, this walk also provides an opportunity for Westmoreland County women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer to enjoy a full day of spa services, educational lectures, relaxation and fun!
Pink Ribbon Scholarship
This scholarship has been established through the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County to provide financial support to a graduating senior in Westmoreland County whose life and/or family has been impacted by breast cancer. We are pleased to have been able to award $19,000 in scholarships since its inception in 2010. Winners represent nine different high schools of 17 school districts in Westmoreland County. This year alone, we had applicants from Kiski, Norwin, Monessen, Hempfield, Belle Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, Greater Latrobe, Southmoreland, Derry, Penn Trafford and the PA Cyber Charter School. The Pink Ribbon Scholarship is funded through the SereniTea and designated donations.
The winners of the Pink Ribbon Scholarship for 2015 are:
- Rebecca Rohac, Norwin
- Paige Rush, Hempfield
- Amerah Abouzaki, Greater Latrobe
Pink Angel Fund
In 2013, Westmoreland Walks, Inc. started “The Pink Angel Fund”. This fund is for families experiencing hardships due to breast cancer. We have been able to help with insurance copays and payments on items such as lymphedema sleeves that cannot be met by women and men needing these supplies. We have paid for groceries and meals when patients are too sick to care for their families. Westmoreland Walks Pink Angel Fund is new and growing. We hope to continue to be available to breast cancer families in Westmoreland County with moral and financial support.
Since 2002, Westmoreland Walks, Inc. has raised over $550,000 benefitting breast cancer awareness. The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, of which we are a Grassroots Partner, has been the beneficiary of $413,000. Since the inception of our Pink Ribbon Scholarship Fund in 2010, there have been 16 scholarship winners of $1,000 or $2,000 each. Our annual Spa Day has hosted over 150 local women diagnosed with breast cancer. In the past three years, our newly created Pink Angel Fund has given $5,500 to individuals surviving breast cancer who are in need.
